NAIP Details

The Naval Academy Information Program (NAIP) is often referred to as the Blue and Gold Program. The NAIP is a voluntary program consisting of active duty and Naval Reserve officers, retired military personnel, alumni and interested civilians. Since its inception, the NAIP has played a major role in increasing the number of applicants and improving the quality of the candidates admitted to the Naval Academy.

NAIP participants are divided into two categories - Naval Academy Information Affiliates (NAIA's) and Naval Academy Information Officers (NAIO's). An affiliate is an individual performing NAIP duties without the advantage of any formal NAIP training conducted by the Naval Academy Candidate Guidance Office (CGO). When an Affiliate completes a formal training session, he or she then becomes an Information Officer (NAIO). Both NAIO's and NAIA's are informally referred to as Blue and Gold Officers (BGO's).

While BGO's have a variety of responsibilities, their most important function is to assist and counsel students who have an interest in the Naval Academy, and to conduct a formal interview of those students who ultimately become official candidates for admission.p>

An Area Coordinator (AC) is an experienced and knowledgeable Naval Academy Information Officer who been selected and designated by the Director of Admission to coordinate all information program activities in an assigned area. The AC's duties include recruiting BGO's, assigning candidates to particular BGO's, and tracking school and candidate information.
